The origin of word “Photograph” is Greek consisting of disyllabic “Photo” which means Light and “Graph” which means painting, and with the collection of the two words the meaning will be light painting.

Through the light can differentiate objects and knowledge of colors, shapes, sizes and the sense ability of time and place.

The European scientists have been interested in the studies of light and photography. Louis Degary in The early eighteenth century made a primitive design of the camera from simple wooden box with hole to enter the light.

At 1888 Kodak Company produces the first commercial camera containing film, and then number of German Companies introduced some improvements to the Camera.

And after the II world war, Japan has entered to this field and produced high quality and affordable cameras, the Japanese brands such as Yashica, Canon, Nikon and Pantiks earned the trust of the photographers all over many years.

As a result of the development of the speeds and sizes of micro processors as well as the great increase of the speed & capacity of the storage units, in addition of the lenses in terms of accuracy and size, the digital camera has been emerged in the beginning of 1995. Many of the Japanese companies produced the first simple generation , and now after 14 years, and after the development which has occurred in this field specially in speed, accuracy, clarity, beautiful colors, low prices, and ease of use, we can notice that the digital cameras have opened the area for millions persons of different age and level of culture and education to enter the world of photography and practice this hobby and enjoy painting of light.

And with the spread of the models, configurations and prices of the digital cameras, one finds himself confused to choose the suitable camera, I noticed that in most of cases the decision was based on prices and the accuracy of the size of the photo which measures with Mega Pixel. And these are important elements to choose the camera, but there are another points have to get into consideration such as:

  • Clarity of the photo and it depends on kind and size of the camera sensor, there are two kinds available CMOS, CCD.
  • The available preprogrammed settings of the camera such as portrait, nature, night and sport photography, the more of these settings provide the photographer the freedom to use easily and in proper purpose.
  • Battery life: its important element, should be considered when buying a camera, and spare battery should be bought to be used in the long photography journeys, must ensure that the battery charger works on 220 v.
  • The minimum and the maximum speed of shutter speed which are between 1/4000 of the second and 30 seconds.
  • The minimum focal length of the lens: less focal lens gives photos with wider angle.
  • The maximum focal length of the lens: longest focal lens gives photos with fewer angles but with more zoom.
  • The type of lens and purity degree: is one of the most important elements which determine the quality of the camera, high-purity and famous brand lens produce pure photo.
  • Well known brand: don’t be tricked with unknown brands and low prices these kinds gives bad photos and will be destroyed easily, the well-known brands like: Sony-Canon- Fuji-Nikon-Kodak- Olympus.
  • Certified maintenance center: in my opinion, the good reputation maintenance center with affordable prices is most important elements should be considered when buying a camera. And the seller should be asked about the warranty period and the data of the maintenance center.
  • Be sure to buy memory card with capacity not less than 1GB.
